Understanding BRN Licensing

Anyone who is interested in a future in the medical field might think about beginning their journey in the world of nursing. Nursing can be a very fulfilling career path – enabling you to lend your aid to people who are sick and in need of medical assistance.

Before you can officially begin your journey to becoming a nurse, one of the things you are going to need to be aware of is BRN licensing and how it works, BRN license verification, and more.

What Does “BRN” Mean?

The acronym BRN simply stands for Board of Registered Nursing. In the state of California, it is an agency run by the government that works to regulate how nurses are registered, and handles implementing and enforcing laws, licensing, and practice related to recognizing nurses.

The Various BRN License Types

Anyone interested in becoming a nurse in California should be aware of the BRN license types, and how to go about getting them so that they can work on advancing their career in nursing. The types of licenses depend on where you are in your journey to becoming a nurse, and it can take awhile for the BRN to go over and approve each license.

·    Temporary License: The temporary nursing license can take up to 8-10 weeks to receive approval from the BRN. To receive  this license, nursing hopefuls will need to complete their online or in-person form and submit to the Board of Nursing, along with the associated fees.

·    Permanent License: The permanent nursing license can take up to 10-12 weeks to receive approval from the BRN. The permanent license works in the roughly the same way as the temporary license, except you won’t have to worry about it expiring so soon.

To verify a nursing license, you can log onto California’s governmental website, submit the requested information along with the $100 verification fee, and await results.

There is some confusion that often surrounds how BRN licenses work, but hopefully, some of this information will have helped to clear it up for you. With this information in mind, you can more confidently work towards receiving your very own nursing license and work on the profession of your dreams.
